ICT in education improves engagement and knowledge retention

 Class I English Lesson

Topic /Text: What time is it, Momo?

The lesson was taught on 5th to 12th October 2020. It was about the reader "What time is it, Momo ?"This reader talks about the daily routine that we do everyday. I made short video clips of model reading and told them to practice for reading test.

Reflection on the lesson

It was a successful lesson as I found that the children had enjoyed the reader on "What time is it, Momo?"Many parents told that video clips on model reading were very effective and relevant for their children to read anytime they want. Parents also said that they can  watch the video clips again and again if they can't read at once. Almost all the students  responded to the activity and had sent the video clips of their reading test. Though parents who were not literate could provide support to their children through short clips.

In the beginning , I had few students responding to the assigned tasks in wechat. I had to make personal calls to the students parents to make them participate in the online teaching. For the past eight months I could find drastic change in online teaching with maximum number of students responding the online classes.

It has been very challenging for both the teachers and students but we teacher did not lose hope to cope up with all these challenges. Though it was challenging online teaching is found to be very flexible that regardless of time and place tutor and pupils are able to contact and the learning happens whenever and wherever they are. With the integration of ICT, it has helped the teachers in saving their time. So as a teacher I strongly support that ICT provides different opportunities to have more enjoyable in teaching the same lesson in different ways.

😊

Happy ready !!!

ICT Integration in Daily lesson through online 2020

                          Teaching through E-Learning (Wechat)

ICT plays a great importance in 21st century teaching and learning. It is also the devices which help to access information to strengthen learning and teaching process. ICT has become more powerful media for interactive teaching between teachers and learners. Moreover, it reaches the unreachable and really useful tools to reach and get their feedbacks.

This pandemic situation brought worried in the mind of education sector as well as for the teacher and students. Of course, the normal classes have started for the higher school but the primary schools were still shut down, However, the students and teacher are in full swing to get to the normal teaching and learning by adapting different strategies through social medias. Among the social media platforms "WeChat App" has served as the most convenient and widely used application. For the past seven months I had taught various lessons using "Wechat App"

On September 9th and 10th 2020, I taught a lesson on Rounding numbers to nearest ten and hundreds for class three students. I introduced the topic and instructed the students to watch the video clip which explains about the Rounding numbers. Also I informed them to respond whether they have understood or not. Almost all the students responded that they have understood the video clip.

After listening from my students feedbacks i found that the children had understood the video lesson. Many parents said that the video clip was very effective and relevant for their children to carry out the activities. this time they also said that the video lesson was appropriate and easier for them to understand the topic clearly.

The main challenges that I found this time was I could not connect three children. When I personally called them, they said their phone was not working, sometime they said their phone was with their parents. Despite all these inconvenience ,I could personally provide support to the parents who could not carryout the activity. It was a successful one as most students responded to the assigned activities.

Therefore, I found that Wechat App has served as the most convenient application in my area as most parents are illiterate. Through this Wechat app I could convey messages with parents and students in carrying out the activity effectively.

Reflection

Let me ask question,”What is teaching?” Teaching is not everyone's cup of tea. Teaching is not an easy task. As a teacher , the function of teacher is to motivate our learners by imparting knowledge  and develop their ability and aspiration to learn. Teaching is a noble professional where teachers make students think outside the classroom and work through the problems.

As the COVID-19 global pandemic continued to spread, has affected educational system across the the world and disruption of school, colleges and universities. All over the world schools and colleges have been closed to encourage social distancing and to prevent the spread of the virus. This  COVID-19 pandemic, there is a greater need of innovative teaching approaches will be a great importance. Indeed, this pandemic has given the opportunity to integrate ICT for students to become self learners and active learning.

The integration of ICT would be valuable for both students and teachers for effective learning. Through mobile learning (Wechat taeching) I found that students who are introverts would participate actively and learning better than they were in the classroom. It has many advantages and benefits. ICT helps students to develop technological skills, communication skills, learn in their own phase and develop their knowledge of sharing.

ICT plays an important role in 21st century teaching and learning.Integration of ICT in teaching enhances learners to get clear concepts whatever the teacher is teaching. Therefore, as an educator we should provide lots of opportunities to use ICT to develop technological skills and problem solving skills in their life.

Some challenges I faced during online teaching;

·       *  Not responding on time

·       *  Lack of support(Especially single parents)

·       *  Slow net work

·       *  Parents having no smart phone and no BBS connection
